There is nothing quite as satisfying as ordering a quality pizza. At CowPies Pizza Co., every slice brings you that warm familiar taste that so many love.
Owner John Wright talks about his great passion for providing the community with quality pizza. “Everybody, especially Houston County, loves good food, ”John says. CowPies Pizza Co. opened in October of 2022 and saw huge success in its first year.
Since then, they have continued to see exponential growth. Demand for their delicious pizza is at an all-time high, and they are thrilled at what this means for their future. John shares his plans for several more locations to follow in the Houston County area.
If their first year in business taught us anything, it is that CowPies Pizza Co. is no ordinary pizza shop. Their ingredients are fresh and their dough is made, tossed, and kneaded in-house daily. To ensure top quality of their cuisine, John shares the extensive lengths they go to in order to create the best taste. “Everything we do is a little more labor intensive but it provides a superior product.”
Their vegetables are chopped by hand, and their meat toppings are made fresh daily. To commit to keeping fresh ingredients, they do not have a freezer. As such, their wings, chicken, bacon, and pulled pork are extra rich in flavor.
To further elevate the customer’s experience, they offer an eclectic menu outside of traditional pizza markets. Among their highly sought-after menu items are their CowPie Deluxe, The Butcher Block, and The Smokehouse pizzas. The unique flavors of these unconventional pizza pies add to their credit ability as customers enjoy the variety offered.
While consistency and quality of food is vital to the success of any restaurant, John believes the employees play an invaluable role in the growth of the business.“When we do things, we like to do things differently so that’s what sets us apart from all of the other pizza places. That is the challenge and I believe the key. Our focus will always bethe people.”
Since he purchased a previous business, John tells me he inherited some of their employees. Of them, he says,“We’ve had a couple of people that were here from the beginning that are just growing into leaders and moving up into management positions.”
Additionally, he’s been blessed by the addition of new staff since opening CowPies Pizza Co. “We’ve had several really good people that have come along and joined the ranks.” The team members have fallen in line with one another rather seamlessly.
Working at a pizza shop is unlike any other job. It gets stressful with the busy lunch and dinner hours and is highdemand in nature, but it can also be quite enjoyable. “You have to toss the dough in the air and get it just right andwork itwith your hands,” John says. Precision is paramount in creating the perfect pizza. At the same time, he says,“People working there are able to cut up and have a good time within the guidelines of our values and standards.”
Through long hours together at the pizzeria, the staff have developed strong friendships. “I’ve watched these people grow to be like brothers and sisters and come to one another’s aid outside of work when someone is moving or somebody had a tree fall into their house.” John is proud that they step up to support one another in and outside of the restaurant.
Amongst their core values as an operation is the concept of family first. John explains that this pertains to theirCowPies family in addition totheirimmediate families. Developing a mindset of servitude applicable to coworkers and customers alike sets them apart from other businesses.
This concept of family transcends to their customers as well. John shares that they have loyal repeat customers they have grown quite close to. They work to create a home-like atmosphere for these special customers. “It truly feels like family, like you’re welcomed there when you walk through the door,” he says. “It’s almost like extended family that stops by weekly to pick up dinner and see one another.”
It is evident in any establishment when the people that work there enjoy what they do. At CowPies Pizza Co., that is clear from the moment you walk through their doors. John attests that the enjoyment of his staff “naturally elevates and lightens the mood and the atmosphere of the room.” Customers see that the people making their pizzas are having a good time which helps run the store like a well-oiled machine
Some of their patrons bring gifts to the restaurant and celebrate their birthdays with CowPies Pizza Co. The connections that have blossomed from this business have been a blessing to John and the rest of his team.
While they pride themselves on making fresh, delicious pizzas and providing excellent customers service to their patrons, John admits they are not perfect. “We are people, we’re just humans,” he says. “When we make a mistake,if someone will simply call, we will do what’s right. We stand behind our word.”
Customers can rest assured knowing the CowPies teamworks to provide them an experience that will surpass their expectations. That elevated experience starts from the moment you call in to order. Unlike most mainstream pizza places, your calls are directed toa person rather than an answering service.
John says of his competitors, “They’re moving away from direct connect relationships and going towards automatic call centers and push buttons whereas I desire this stuff to be built in an old-fashioned manner.”
A step above others, they are a business that is built on relationships. “It’s more than just transactional, it’srelational,” John attests. “I desire to build relationship between the customers and the people in my stores. I wantthem to have relationship built on business rather than a ticketnumber and a transaction.”
As part of a community that takes care of its neighbors, CowPies Pizza Co. operates with the best interest of its people and its customers at heart. It is evident in their kindness that they care for those they serve.
CowPies Pizza Co. sponsors several local school and teams. They also cater weddings, church gatherings, and other events. “In the future we plan to open a food truck to be able to better serve people when we are catering,”John shares .Exciting changes are coming to CowPies Pizza Co.in the future.
John talks about the greater purpose of CowPies Pizza Co. and the memorable experience he hopes to create for customers. He shares his desire for his team that they would “foster a servant mentality to truly and genuinely serve the community.” With this purpose at the heart of their business, John hopes to make a difference in people’s lives one pizza slice at a time.
